He’s one of the most ubiquitous men on television. Certainly the most calm, cool, and collected—the king of “off the cuff.” And no one throws to a commercial better. Yes, Tom Bergeron is a Hollywood staple, and the role for which he is best known is . . . well . . . himself. But while he’s a comforting presence to millions of people, cultivating this seemingly unshakeable positive outlook and cool persona took as much motivation, inspiration, perseverance, and experience as it would take one to prepare a classic part for the stage. I’m Hosting as Fast as I Can! is the trying, often laugh-out-loud journey it took to get to himself . Tom got into the world of entertainment by way of local radio at age seventeen, hosting what his first boss told him was and should be a “no-personality station.” He said, “Tommy, just play the records and read the commercials.” But the sit-down-and-shut-up attitude belied Tom’s natural inclination to inject personality and a little pluck into his broadcasts. So, Tom sought other performance opportunities on radio, in improvisational theater, and even as a mime (yes, a mime ), which would help him hone the expressiveness that seems to come so naturally to his presentation. His determination would result in a high-profile hosting gig on the iconic game show Hollywood Squares and guest-hosting appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS’s Early Show . But as is sometimes the case with enthusiastic dynamos like Tom, he had an explosive temper that he admits had the potential to derail his dreams of being not only a successful broadcaster but also a successful husband, father, and friend. How to cope? “I meditated my temper into submission,” says Tom with his trademark sense of humor. In I’m Hosting as Fast as I Can! , Tom elaborates on the process by which he is able to sit calmly and patiently, without being distracted, at any time, no matter how hectic, as well as respond quickly (and hilariously) when Marie Osmond faints at his feet on live TV. Popular Suits From Tv Programs

The use of suits has been ingrained into our culture for as long as our great nation has existed. People have been wearing suits for hundreds of years and the very thought of a nicely tailored suit conjures up many images. This has been exemplified on many television shows and movies over the years.

One great example of this is the suits and especially the tuxedo worn by James Bond. You can't think of a James Bond movie without thinking of him in his signature tuxedo. The AMC program Mad Men provides another superb example of suit wearing men in a movie. Mad Men suits are constantly talked about on many blogs and video sites. You'll even find a multitude of threads on fashion forums talking about the suits that are worn on this show.

A renewed interest in well tailored mens suits has come back simply from people watching this show. They have also renewed interest in a more conservative wearing and coloration of the suit. One should note that in the 1980s Miami Vice did the opposite for suits. The show Miami Vice had people wearing much brighter suit shades and caused a diversion from the classic white button down shirt to many other colors and styles.

Another type of suit that most will recognize is the suit worn by those in the movie Men In Black. This strictly formal and almost militaristic wearing of the suit immediately sets them apart as people working in government law enforcement.

Its quite amazing how much influence hit television shows can have over one of the steadiest pieces of clothing in modern history. Luckily, the suit has changed so much that people can't recognize it anymore. You'll note that button numbers differ, lapel widths vary, and some of the styles and designs have changed, but a suit is still a suit.

Also, no matter how many changes occur, it always seems that the same styles seem to make their way back into the mainstream. For the above reason, I always save all of my old suits because I know that one day they will come back into style for me.

Thanks for looking over this short editorial on mens suits. Are you aware of any TV shows which may have greatly influenced the way people wear suits? If you're able to think of any and want to share, visit my site at http://www.theguidetomenssuits.com
