Maurice and Therese $15.99 As Saint Therese lay dying in the Carmel of Lisieux, she overheard a conversation that amused her. Outside her window, two nuns were discussing what they could write in her obituary that could possibly be of any interest, since the twenty-four-year-old nun had never done anything worth noting. Therese was pleased, for she had always kept a low profile. With the posthumous publication of her spiritual autobiography in 1898, however, that low profile would vanish instantly. She became one of the most beloved saints of all time, and her influence will expand dramatically because of Pope John Paul II’s declaration that she is a Doctor of the Church. Amid growing interest in her writings comes the collected correspondence between her and a humble young seminarian, Maurice Belliere. Though they never met in person, they exchanged twenty-one letters that opened a window on the heart of Saint Therese that would have remained forever closed had Maurice not written to the Mother Superior at the convent asking for a nun to pray for him. The Mother Superior chose Therese, and in these conversational letters the Little Flower reveals herself in a way that we would never have known from her autobiography. In his accompanying text, Bishop Patrick Ahern expertly leads the reader into the worlds of Maurice and Therese and reveals the full beauty of this saint’s spirituality. From the Trade Paperback edition. |

Maurice Bowra $27.95 Maurice Bowra was, according to one's point of view, either the most distinguished or the most notorious Oxford don of the early twentieth century. Classicist, poet, wit, raconteur extraordinary, and Warden of Wadham College for over thirty years, he met nearly everyone of consequence in the worlds of literature and politics and had stories to tell about them all, from Jean Cocteau to Virginia Woolf, from Adolf Hitler to the Kennedys, from Isaiah Berlin to Charlie Chaplin. By forceof personality and intellectual range, he influenced the thinking of almost everyone with whom he came into contact. Above all, brought up in Edwardian England, he was able to chart the ways in which the values of his youth were tested by new democratic ideas. His experiences allowed him to develop and employ theories of education that were startling, and which would mould the thinking of a generation of English intellectuals. Based upon a wide range of interviews and previously unpublished manuscript material, this is the first ever biography of Bowra, and covers every aspect of his life, from soldier on the Western Front to Oxford classicist, from celebrated wit to frustrated poet manqu–eacute–;. |

Toyota Aurion Joins Queensland Police Service Fleet of Vehicles
Toyota's new Aurion Sportivo SX6 and prodigy V6 will join the Queensland Police Service fleet of operational and support vehicles. Queensland Police has chosen the Aurion after undertaking extensive tests at its Mount Cotton driver training centre.
Toyota has provided their Aurion for testing to Queensland Police prior to the car's official launching. This has provided the Queensland Police the opportunity to evaluate the car's various abilities especially in terms of braking, cornering and handling performance. The Queensland Police was also able to test the Aurion's compatibility for internal fittings, lights and sirens.
According to Inspector Maurice Poiner, Queensland Police's Officer in Charge of Transport, the Aurion provided the service with an alternative to the V6 that they traditionally select. He further stated, "We were very interested in looking at the Aurion when we first heard about it. In testing it was very well received by the members of the driver training unit. It met all our needs. Therefore, we are more than willing to put it in the field."
Inspector Poiner also pointed out that the Aurion's front-wheel drive design with Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist made it suitable to the grueling police work.
"The front-wheel drive Aurion meets the demands of police work and has a number of advantages in high density public areas."
The Sportivo SX6 will be used in both marked and unmarked roles while the Prodigy will be utilized for non-active police duties. The Aurion police cars have a strong on-road presence and the Queensland Police's selection was a great endorsement for Toyota's new model as stated by Toyota Queensland Government Fleet Sales Manager Les Calvert. The addition of Aurion has widened the array of Queensland Police existing Toyota fleet that includes HiLux, HiAce, Coaster and LandCruiser 70, 100 and Prado.
