The HyperText Transfer Protocol, or HTTP, is the backbone of the World Wide Web. HTTP is the language that each web browser (or other web client) uses to communicate with servers around the world. All web programmers, administrators, and application developers need to be familiar with HTTP in order to work effectively. The HTTP Pocket Reference not only provides a solid conceptual foundation of HTTP, it also serves as a quick reference to each of the headers and status codes that comprise an HTTP transaction. The book starts with a tutorial of HTTP, but then explains the client request and server responses in more detail, and gives a thorough technical explanation of more advanced features of HTTP (such as persistent connections and caching). Most people use the Web every day without knowing anything about HTTP, but for those who need to get “beyond the browser,” this book is the place to start.

Health Check Costa Rica on the Promed Medical Tourism Congress.

The Medical Travel summit hosted by the Promed Council of Costa Rica was an exceptional event that highlighted the direction of this essential industry in Costa Rica. Presence was stronger with many of the significant players in Medical Tourism manifested in addition to several large Real Estate development firms with a vested awareness in Medical Tourism projects in Costa Rica, also included were countries like Panama and Colombia trying to get their nascent Medical Tourism campaigns before a larger audience. The presenters ranged on many critical topics and several truly stood out. The thrust of this conference and its speakers was and is attention to excellent standards in all facets of the Medical Tourism industry. From medical travel facilitators to institutional care providers the information was clear. Outstanding quality of care, attention to quality and transparency of services are the watchwords that will carry this sector forward in massive leaps of growth that numerous seasoned forecasters are predicting. Winning the confidence of the prospective patients may only be done with consistent high quality medical care, transparency of service and the excellence of the hospitality industry which sustains it.
Many highlights of the conference included Mr. Robert Repke of Global Medical Conexions. Mr. Repkes’ talk was of special fascination as his company provides consulting solutions to many significant companies who have converted to the Self Insurance model as a matter of basic need and we feel experience. These kind of corporations like many people get that the regular insurance carriers are plainly too expensive and merely not nimble enough to accommodate to their demographic specific requirements. Its not all companies are created equal either in demographics or their insurance needs. Tailoring a self insurance program to suit has the potential to preserve North American companies billions of dollars with time and the Medical Travel design stands to be a significant beneficiary of such forward imagining tactics. Incentivizing employees for medical travel is certain to turn into a hot topic for controversy in the near future. One we will track closely. The concepts striking to us and should be telling to participants in this industry was just how new this idea is and how few corporations are really embracing this model. With numerous superb carriers such as Lloyd’s of London mitigating liability very affordably for corporations offering Medical Travel as an choice, the risk infrastructure appears to be growing swiftly around Medical Travel and the growth potential in this area given these innovations is basically surprising.
One more vital and informative presenter at the forum was Attorney Stephen M. Weiner associate and Chair of the Health Law Practice. Mr. Weiner touched on a few very significant liability and risk issues specifically for Medical Travel facilitators. The very long arm of United States Litigators is alive and well here in Costa Rica and the fine line concerning being a facilitator and a care provider is one we facilitators ought to follow carefully. Serious care must be taken by facilitators to be transparent in their certification and the scope of their services. A facilitator ought to go above and beyond in establishing the lines of communication with possible buyers and delineating where facilitation stops and care giving starts out. Facilitators offer a valuable service helping patients negotiate the often difficult and daunting labyrinth of international travel add this to the concern of Medical Care in a foreign country and the growing value of the facilitators role and therefore liability gets clear.
The Medical travel Summit and Promed have shared a very important role in Costa Ricas medical tourism future and the value of building trust, endorsing accreditation, bringing management leaders together and above all promoting specifications of excellence within all sides of this sector in Costa Rica. In part two of this set we will look at other critical themes from the summit including the Costa Rica Governments essential part in transparency, and establishing specifications and practices for Medical Travel Facilitators.
